Dubai Maritime City Authority Holds a Number of Community Activities

April 12, 2009
While developmental progress continues at full force within Dubai Maritime City, the world’s first purpose-built maritime centre and a member of the Dubai World group of companies, there has also been a focus on its social responsibility initiatives. A number of activities were held recently in support of different social causes.

A visit was recently held by children from Dubai’s Thalassemia Centre to a visiting cruise ship, Silver Sea, during which they toured the vessel and were given an overview of the entertainment facilities onboard as well as an understanding of the importance of safety and security onboard. The visit comes to reaffirm the human side of the organisation and its employees and their willingness to alleviate some of the pain suffered by the children.

In addition to that, a group of DMC employees also visited the old age home of Dubai, which turned into a trip down memory lane as they met with a number of the elderly, who were excited by the visit. The visit started with an explanation by the centre’s management on the role they play in the care of the elderly from a social and health perspective, as it is not considered an old age home for those abandoned by their families, but rather, as a reliable source of specialised health care for the old.

Meanwhile, the Environment, Health, Safety and Security department of Dubai Maritime City organised a blood donation drive in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority, with more than 100 employees donating their blood. The campaign was preceded with a presentation by Dr. Khawla Al Haddad, Manager – Environment and Health Compliance at Dubai Maritime City, which talked about the social and humanitarian benefits of donating blood.

Dubai Maritime City also recently partnered with the UAE Red Crescent Society to collect cash and in kind donations in solidarity with the victims of the recent war in Gaza and the occupied territories, in a move that demonstrates its commitment to causes outside the UAE borders.
