THE US$63 BILLION DUBAI AIRSHOW CLOSES

Visitor numbers soar to 56,548

Dubai, UAE. 17 November 2011 – The Dubai Airshow closed its doors today on a successful week which saw US$63.3 billion worth of orders for aircraft, maintenance services and flight training programmes.

Visitor numbers broke the Dubai Airshow record with 56,548 people attending, making the 12th edition of the Dubai Airshow the biggest as well as the most colourful yet, as the halls, pavilions and chalets displayed the colours of the UAE national flag in celebration of the nation’s 40th anniversary in two weeks’ time on 2 December.

The theme of flight training which permeated this year’s Dubai Airshow continued on the final day with the signing by Fujairah Aviation Academy in the UAE with IATA, to develop the facility as an IATA-approved training centre for high school graduates.

The UAE’s 40th anniversary celebrations at the Dubai Airshow came to a climax as the country’s new aerobatic display team – Al Fursan – opened the aerial display with a fly-past with an Emirates Boeing 777 aircraft, proudly trailing the colours of UAE national flag to the delight of the crowd below.

Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “We promised a Dubai Airshow that would be bigger and better than ever and we did not disappoint. The past week has been notable for its buoyant crowds, spectacular aerial displays and astonishing order announcements. As the show comes to an end, it will be time to take stock of the successes and the challenges, in preparation for Dubai Airshow 2013 at Dubai World Central!”

The Dubai Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in co-operation with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.

DUBAI AIRSHOW MARKS INNOVATIONS IN UAE’S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY

Dubai, UAE. 16 November 2011 – The Dubai Airshow is marking the UAE’s 40th anniversary this year and the fourth day of the event was remarkable for the nation’s commitment to developing its aerospace industry and the people who will lead it.

Dubai-based Emirates Group signed a long-term leadership training agreement with Rolls-Royce, which will see Emirates’ top UAE national managers take part in Rolls-Royce’s leadership and business management development programme in the United Kingdom.

Beginning next year, the first modules will be delivered at Rolls-Royce’s centre in Derby and then at Oxford University, covering leadership, team management, performance management and personal effectiveness.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, who signed the contract with Rob Watson, Rolls-Royce’s Regional Director, said: “The Emirates Group has a robust UAE National training and development programme and we are keen to further develop this, utilising the proven training expertise of Rolls-Royce. We have ambitious growth plans and to meet them we need to keep developing the talent that we have.”

US-based aviation consultancy and brokerage company, CB Aviation, announced the opening of a second headquarters in Dubai, appointing Saeed Al Mansouri as its VP for the Middle East and Africa, who said: “We are focusing efforts on these regions, which, according to global statistics, will see growth rates in local tourism and aviation touching 20 percent of global figures. It is said that the volume of investment in projects in the Middle East will exceed $330 billion over the coming years.”

Earlier in the Dubai Airshow, it was announced that, for the first time ever, the UAE will see the building of a new family of turbine helicopters. QUEST AVQ series will be the first civil helicopters to be assembled and manufactured in Umm Al Quwain in the UAE and aims to commence initial production in 2014.

To round off the UAE’s 40th anniversary celebrations at the Dubai Airshow, the country’s first- ever aerobatic display team – Al Fursan – will open the final day’s (Thurs 17 Nov) aerial display at 2.15pm with a fly-past, with the UAE national flag fluttering proudly in their wake. Al Fursan will then close the 12th edition of the Dubai Airshow with its spectacular routine.

This year’s Dubai Airshow is the biggest yet, with nearly 55,000 trade visitors expected over the week.

Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “We wanted to honour the UAE’s 40th anniversary by raising the profile of the country’s incredible advancements in aerospace over the past 40 years and its future development plans, and these announcements are testament to this.”

Sheikh Ahmed announces Dubai World Central as the new venue of the Dubai Airshow 2013

Sheikh Ahmed announces Dubai World Central as the new venue of the Dubai Airshow 2013

AED 1 billion investment earmarked for Dubai World Central to cover the relocation of the Dubai Airshow 2013 and the start of the first phase of the aviation district

Dubai, UAE; November 16, 2011: H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, has announced today (Wedensday, November 16, 2011) the commitment of AED 1 billion for Dubai World Central, a purpose-built aerotropolis. The investment will cover the relocation of the Dubai Airshow 2013 to Dubai World Central and the start of the first phase of development of its aviation district.

“Dubai World Central is an integral component of the strategic vision of Dubai Government to establish the emirate as an international aviation hub and a gateway to global markets. The aviation district has been holistically conceived to capitalize on the dynamic aviation industry of the UAE and the region. The move of Dubai Airshow 2013 to Dubai World Central is an example of Dubai’s long-term plan to meet the growing demands of the industry,” said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed.

The latest announcement is part of DWC’s multi-phased plan to develop a dedicated aviation cluster.

Covering over 6.8 square kilometers, the aviation district provides both landside and airside facilities and leverages the current and future capacity of Al Maktoum International Airport. Once complete, it will be home to many aviation companies, including FBOs, MROs and light manufacturing.

The masterplan also addresses the need for a controlled access to airside functions, which are exemplified in the general aviation area consisting of a heliport, areas dedicated for MROs and FBOs, an executive jet terminal and covered aircraft parking stands.

Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said: “As evident with the recent investments being made in the aviation sector within the region, including Emirates Airlines’ record-setting purchase of 50 new aircraft during the Dubai Airshow, Dubai World Central is strategically positioned to service and cater to the needs of the region’s rapidly expanding aviation sector. The aviation district within DWC is the next step in strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading aviation and logistics hub.”

Rashed Bu Qara'a, Chief Operation Officer, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said: “We are showcasing various opportunities at Dubai World Central to the global aviation community during this year’s Dubai Airshow. There has been positive feedback from the different industry players, especially after seeing first hand the progress of Dubai World Central and understanding our strategic vision to create a multimodal platform for aviation and logistics sectors. Built with future capacity in mind, Dubai World Central will be able to meet the many needs of different companies across the breadth of the aviation sectors.”

The new venue of Dubai Airshow 2013 will encompass a larger area than the current facility and will consist of a grand reception building, two large exhibition halls, and static display areas, which will offer more space to accommodate additional aircraft.

The show’s Royal Pavilion for VIP visitors will be positioned to overview the display line and static display. An exclusive area that commands an excellent view of the showcase has also been earmarked for the press facility along with the control tower. There will also be a special dedicated area for casual visitors to witness the Airshow’s flying displays and to accommodate leisure and entertainment activities for families.

Dubai World Central is one of the most important and strategic projects launched by the Government of Dubai. It has been developed to meet the present and future needs of Dubai's aviation, tourism, trade and logistics sectors.

About Dubai World Central (DWC):
Dubai World Central (DWC) is a strategic initiative of the government of Dubai that strongly positions the emirate as a leading international trade centre. Recognised as the Middle East's first aerotropolis, Dubai World Central is one of the most ambitious projects of its kind in the world comprising the new Al Maktoum International Airport, set to be the world's largest in volume and size upon completion, and the adjacent specialized free zones focused on logistics sectors and aviation industries.

DWC occupies an area of 140 square kilometres in Jebel Ali and is in close proximity to Jebel Ali Sea Port, the sixth largest container terminal in the world. In addition to the dedicated link to Jebel Ali Sea Port, DWC's unique multimodal capabilities are supported by links to all main motorways in the country and the Al Maktoum International Airport, which once complete will handle up to 120 million passengers and 12 million tons of air cargo per year. The airport will also serve as the main gateway to aviation and logistics companies that have already chosen DWC as their base for logistics.

AIRBUS MAKES ITS MARK ON DAY 3 OF DUBAI AIRSHOW

AIRBUS MAKES ITS MARK ON DAY 3 OF DUBAI AIRSHOW

Dubai, UAE. 15 November 2011 – The latter part of the third day of the Dubai Airshow saw the order book rev up to US$55.4 billion after some tough negotiations earlier in the day, with the Airbus A320neo the big winner.

Florida-based Spirit Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for 75 Airbus A320 family jets – 45 A320neo (new engine option) and 30 A320 aircraft. The MoU should be converted into a firm order by the end of the year. The deal is valued at US$7 billion.

John Leahy, Airbus COO, Customers, said: “The unrivalled economics of these aircraft convinced Spirit to go all-Airbus and that decision has clearly paid off since for the airline.”

Qatar Airways, resolving its earlier differences with Airbus, signed an order for 50 A320neo aircraft and five A380 double-decker aircraft, with a total list price of US$6.4 billion. The Doha-based carrier, which has taken options on 30 additional A320neos, plus three additional A380s, will be the A320neo launch customer.

“The A320neo promises to be a great aircraft which is why we have chosen it to form the backbone of our future single aisle expansion,” said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways.

Boeing’s flight services unit Jeppesen announced a new contract agreement with Emirates Aviation College. The deal will provide Jeppesen’s ‘ab initio’ pilot training courses to the Dubai-based institute.
"It is a strategic collaboration between Emirates Aviation College and Jeppesen to offer the region's first of its kind JAA ab initio pilot training programme,” said Dr Ahmad Al Ali, Senior Vice President Emirates Aviation College.

The Dubai Airshow order book earlier on Day 3 topped US$42 billion, a mix of aircraft orders, maintenance deals and training agreements.

Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “This year’s Dubai Airshow is certainly a successful one for Airbus, with orders for its new A320neo, bringing our order book total to $55.4 billion. Let’s see what’s in store for the next two days!”

US$42 BILLION ORDER BOOK FOR DUBAI AIRSHOW BY DAY 3!

US$42 BILLION ORDER BOOK FOR DUBAI AIRSHOW BY DAY 3!

Two more days of orders expected

Dubai, UAE. 15 November 2011 – The third day of the Dubai Airshow saw companies continue their buying spree, with some manufacturers reaping rewards and others disappointed, making it a busy and somewhat controversial day for the world’s press attending!

Aviation Capital Group (ACG), the US-based aircraft leasing company, signed an agreement with Airbus for 30 eco-efficient A320neo (new engine option) aircraft, valued at US$2.7 billion at list price. “Faced with increasing fuel prices and tough competition, we are seeing a stronger than ever demand from our customers for modern fuel-efficient aircraft such as the A320neo,” said Stephen Hannahs, CEO & GMD of ACG.

Airbus was not so fortunate in their contract negotiations with Qatar Airways for a predicted aircraft order, leaving the glory to Boeing, which clinched a deal with the Doha-based carrier for two Boeing 777 freighters, valued at US$560 million at list price.

Bombardier Aerospace and Turkey’s Atlasjet Havacilik A.S. have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to acquire 10 CS300 jetliners, with options for a further five. The firm order contract is valued at US$776 million, which could increase to US$1.18 billion if the options are converted to firm orders.

At another press briefing, PT Nusantara Turbin dan Propulsi (NTP) of Indonesia and Joint Stock Company (JSC) BEK Air Kazakstan announced a maintenance agreement worth US$13 million for the field service, repair and overhaul of TAY 650-15 engines for its Fokker 100 aircraft.

This year’s Dubai Airshow is the biggest yet, with nearly 55,000 trade visitors expected over the week.

Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “We have now reached an order book of US$42 billion, three times more than the tally of the last show in 2009. However, the day nor the Dubai Airshow is yet over and we anticipate more exciting announcements!”

DUBAI AIRSHOW PLATFORM FOR GROWING IMPORTANCE OF REGIONAL AEROSPACE COMPANIES

DUBAI AIRSHOW PLATFORM FOR GROWING IMPORTANCE OF REGIONAL AEROSPACE COMPANIES

Dubai, UAE. 14 November 2011 – The second day of the Dubai Airshow was the day for Middle East companies to consolidate its growing importance across the aerospace industry.

Running until Thursday 17 November 2011 at the Airport Expo, the show has been decked out in the UAE national flag colours to celebrate the nation’s 40th anniversary in two weeks’ time on 2 December.

Oman Air signed an order for six Boeing 787-8s, completing an arrangement with Boeing and Kuwait-based leasing company ALAFCO to transfer existing orders for the six Dreamliners from ALAFCO to Oman Air. “Our decision to order the 787-8 is part of Oman Air’s long-term growth strategy to expand and modernise our fleet with newer, more fuel-efficient airplanes,” said Oman Air CEO Peter Hill. “We see direct benefits because of the Dreamliner’s fuel efficiency and operating economics as well as the enhanced travel experience that Oman Air will be able to offer its customers aboard this airplane.”

Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Aerospace announced agreements to advance the commercial and military aviation industry in the UAE. Mubadala Aerospace’s composite aerostructures facility, Strata Manufacturing is to become a Tier 1 supplier to Boeing.

Another Mubadala company, Advanced Military Maintenance Repair & Overhaul Centre (AMMROC), announced a strategic agreement with Boeing Defense, Space & Security to provide support to military aviation platforms in the UAE, specifically the support infrastructure for the operational readiness of the UAE Armed Forces aircraft, including Boeing-built Apaches, Chinooks and C-17s in its fleet.

“These strategic agreements represent the natural evolution of the longstanding military and commercial aerospace collaboration between Boeing and the UAE,” said Mubadala Aerospace Executive Director Homaid Al Shemmari.

At an Airbus briefing, COO John Leahy said that the Middle East fleet will almost treble in the next 20 years, with 1,920 aircraft worth over US$347 billion required by 2030. “The Middle East remains one of the world’s most robust aviation regions and this is confirmed by a 200 percent increase in inter-regional passenger traffic over the last 10 years. The region is uniquely placed, with more than 85 percent of the world’s population within reach of the direct flight, making the Middle East a fertile market place for our eco-efficient aircraft today and beyond.”

This year’s Dubai Airshow is the biggest yet, with nearly 55,000 trade visitors expected over the week.

Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “The Dubai Airshow has proved itself this year as the platform for the region’s aerospace industry. Following on from yesterday’s fantastic order by Emirates Airline for 70 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, worth US$26 billion, we now see Boeing’s latest aircraft the 787 Dreamliner being snapped up by Oman Air, with Mubadala Aerospace showing it’s significance in the industry as a Tier 1 supplier to Boeing.

“The Dubai Airshow, however, is not just about orders; its also a platform for building strategic alliances and developing relationships in order to further the aerospace industry in the region."
