Fines up to Dhs100,000 for violators

Dubai Municipality has appealed to all establishments and companies that own or operate labour accommodations in the emirate of Dubai to comply by its call to avoid overflow of waste water in the labour camps as this phenomenon will have negative impact on public health, environment and the civilized image of the emirate.

The circular issued by the Municipality to these establishments and companies in this regard states that the civic body is keen to maintain public health and environment and it has decided to impose a fine of Dhs10,000 against those who allow sewage to seep into the vicinity of their accommodations.

If the offender fails to clean up the area and remove all trails of the leakage, the Municipality will take the necessary measures to carry out the same and impose a fine up to Dhs.100,000 on the offender.

The Municipality called upon all concerned parties to ensure the cleanliness of the environment through proper maintenance of drainage systems and avoid sewage overflow. It also urged all concerned to comply with the circular and cooperate with the Municipality inspectors.
It is worth mention that the Municipality recently issued an administrative order adding new violations that include accommodating labourers within the premises of the establishments and different work sites without permission from the Municipality.

Accommodating individuals inside the establishments or buildings that not intended for residences will invite a fine of Dhs5,000 for each individual.
The administrative decision also stipulates that disposing off waste water through any method in the open places or places not meant for such things would invite a fine of Dhs100,000.
Not taking necessary measures to prevent outflow or overflow of waste water from buildings or falling water from tankers on public roads would invite a fine of Dhs10,000.
