Siemens Announces Major Presence at Region’s Leading Renewable Energy Conference, World Future Energy Summit 2009

Building on the success of last year’s summit, Siemens today announced a major presence at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), being held from 19-21 January in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The summit, held under the patronage of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayan, Crown Price of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and presented by MASDAR (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), provides the platform for industry leaders such as Siemens to showcase technological innovations, that responsibly address sustaining the world’s ever increasing energy needs.

Siemens, a world leader in climate protection technologies, is a gold sponsor of the 2009 Summit. Joachim Kundt, CEO, Siemens LLC, comments: “Today Siemens is the only company that offers solutions along the entire energy conversion value chain. As such, we are proud to present our extensive renewable energy portfolio at the World Future Energy Summit 2009. Siemens is highly committed to its environmental portfolio, which in 2008 generated just under EUR19 billion, approximately one quarter of the company’s total global revenue of EUR77 billion.” The energy conversion value chain is the process by which energy is generated, transmitted, distributed and finally used in industries, homes and offices, and other end user applications.

Siemens will also have a significant presence at the WFES conference. Professor Hermann Requardt, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Siemens AG, will be speaking at the keynote session on day one of the summit, on ‘Technology Solutions for Energy Challenges’. As CTO, Requardt leads Siemens' environmental and energy efficiency portfolio. He is also responsible for the EUR3.8 billion that Siemens invests annually in research and development.

On 20 January, Dr. René Umlauft, CEO of Siemens Energy Renewable Energy Division, will join the conference panel focusing on wind energy. Meanwhile, Johannes Schmidt, CEO Equity and Project Finance, Siemens Financial Services, will present on ‘Financing Infrastructure Projects’.

At its exhibition stand (Stand 5410, Hall 5), Siemens will showcase the latest in environmentally friendly technologies, renewable energy solutions as well as current and future sustainable energy concepts.

In addition, eight leading experts from the Siemens global network will be present on the stand for the duration of the summit to share their expertise on a wide range of relevant topics including - efficient energy supply; carbon capture and storage; green IT; energy efficient lighting; photovoltaic (solar) solutions; sustainable urban infrastructures; intelligent power management; energy efficient drive technologies; and wind power technologies. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with these experts and experience Siemens’ innovations across the full energy chain.

Joachim Kundt adds: “As an industry expert and a reliable provider of sustainable energy solutions, Siemens will continue to provide technological innovations to respond to the ever increasing challenges of generating more efficient energy production and usage. We are excited about initiatives such as MASDAR and Siemens will continue to provide clear answers to help reduce the impact of climate change by providing current and future energy solutions.”
