RTA Opens Dhiyafa – Al Mina Road Junction
RTA Opens Dhiyafa – Al Mina Road Junction
Dubai (United Arab Emirates): Roads & Transport Authority announced the opening of Al Dhiyafa – Al Mina Road Junction as of Friday 20 February, signaling the completion of the Project in which construction works started in October 2006. The Project, which has a cost tag of 121 million dirham, is a further addition to RTA efforts to ease traffic bottlenecks and increase traffic flow in the emirate of Dubai.
“The purpose of the Project is to improve and widen Jumeirah, Al Mina and Al Dhiyafa Roads as well as complementing Jumeirah Road Beautification Project” said engineer Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency. She added: “The Project covered improvements along Jumeirah Road starting from Union House to Rashid Port R/A; a sector known as Dry Dock Road, and widening Al Mina Road to 4 lanes in each way in a sector extending 2 km. it also included improvements of Al Mina Road intersections with Al Dhiyafa & Al Wasl Roads, and construction of a pedestrian subway extending 45 meters near the front of the Dry Dock Gate.
“The importance of the project stems from the importance of Al Dhiyafa & Al Mina Roads, both lead to Jumeirah; which is a superb residential & tourist area in Dubai. RTA attends to upgrading roads network to ease traffic pressure to match the nature of development of each area in the emirate.
“RTA is also considering opening the initial phase of Al Ittihad Road Widening Project before the end of February 2009 covering additional two tunnels over and above the existing tunnels at HQ Interchange.
“Completing these projects comes in the context of RTA plans to keep pace with the urbanization drive, serve the sweeping development witnessed by the emirate, and meet the current and projected requirements of population growth & expansion. This warrants construction of broad roads & bridges network, upgrading transport modes, and improving traffic & roads systems; which are all essential ingredients for realizing the vision of the RTA to provide safe and smooth transport for all” added Maitha in a concluding remark.
