RTA Uses Most Eco-Friendly Fuel for Public Buses

RTA Uses Most Eco-Friendly Fuel for Public Buses

Al Dossari calls on parties concerned to urge local fuel producers to take up production of environment-friendly fuel

Dubai (United Arab Emirates): Mr. Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossari, CEO of Public Transport Agency in the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is attaching utmost concern with public health issues as demonstrated in RTA efforts to keep the environment clean and minimize air pollution resulting from vehicle emissions. In keeping with this drive Public Transport Agency at Roads & Transport Authority runs public buses on a special type of fuel classified as the best and most environment-friendly worldwide.

He said reiterated that RTA always seeks to adopt the best practices with regard to the environmental aspects out of its attention to introduce not only the best modes of mass transport but also the most eco-friendly ones with the least harm to the public health.

“We use a special diesel imported on monthly basis that contains only 50 ppm sulfur, whereas the type of diesel used by other heavy trucks and buses in the emirate of Dubai has a sulfur content of 500 ppm. This means that emissions resulting from the diesel used by Public Transport Agency buses is almost negligible compared to the diesel used by other buses and heavy vehicles in the emirate of Dubai.

“The new fleet of buses is fitted with Euro IV engines which are designed to be friendly to the environment and will not operate efficiently unless run by a top quality & eco-friendly fuel. They are also coupled with Selective Catalytic Reduction technology in the exhausts system, using the blue urea (AdBlue®additive); which is a non-toxic material not added to diesel (as mistakenly thought otherwise by some people) but added to a special tank in the engine. It acts as a reagent to measure and process nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust emissions to transform them into water & nitrogen (H2O + N2); which are obviously non toxic to the environment.

“Concerned bodies are invited to enact legislations in this field to urge fuel processors in the UAE to take necessary action to process this type of fuel, which has a sulfur content of only 50 ppm, and introduce it to the local markets such that it will be accessible to all for running vehicles and machinery to maintain a clean environment.

“RTA is making tireless efforts to meet a number of strategic objectives; some of which are associated with the environmental aspect. The realm of such efforts is to realize the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which reflects the endless attention paid by HH to the public health and maintain a clean and sustainable environment” concluded Al Dossari.
