DUBAI AIRSHOW MARKS INNOVATIONS IN UAE’S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
Dubai, UAE. 16 November 2011 – The Dubai Airshow is marking the UAE’s 40th anniversary this year and the fourth day of the event was remarkable for the nation’s commitment to developing its aerospace industry and the people who will lead it.
Dubai-based Emirates Group signed a long-term leadership training agreement with Rolls-Royce, which will see Emirates’ top UAE national managers take part in Rolls-Royce’s leadership and business management development programme in the United Kingdom.
Beginning next year, the first modules will be delivered at Rolls-Royce’s centre in Derby and then at Oxford University, covering leadership, team management, performance management and personal effectiveness.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, who signed the contract with Rob Watson, Rolls-Royce’s Regional Director, said: “The Emirates Group has a robust UAE National training and development programme and we are keen to further develop this, utilising the proven training expertise of Rolls-Royce. We have ambitious growth plans and to meet them we need to keep developing the talent that we have.”
US-based aviation consultancy and brokerage company, CB Aviation, announced the opening of a second headquarters in Dubai, appointing Saeed Al Mansouri as its VP for the Middle East and Africa, who said: “We are focusing efforts on these regions, which, according to global statistics, will see growth rates in local tourism and aviation touching 20 percent of global figures. It is said that the volume of investment in projects in the Middle East will exceed $330 billion over the coming years.”
Earlier in the Dubai Airshow, it was announced that, for the first time ever, the UAE will see the building of a new family of turbine helicopters. QUEST AVQ series will be the first civil helicopters to be assembled and manufactured in Umm Al Quwain in the UAE and aims to commence initial production in 2014.
To round off the UAE’s 40th anniversary celebrations at the Dubai Airshow, the country’s first- ever aerobatic display team – Al Fursan – will open the final day’s (Thurs 17 Nov) aerial display at 2.15pm with a fly-past, with the UAE national flag fluttering proudly in their wake. Al Fursan will then close the 12th edition of the Dubai Airshow with its spectacular routine.
This year’s Dubai Airshow is the biggest yet, with nearly 55,000 trade visitors expected over the week.
Alison Weller, Managing Director of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace, said: “We wanted to honour the UAE’s 40th anniversary by raising the profile of the country’s incredible advancements in aerospace over the past 40 years and its future development plans, and these announcements are testament to this.”
The Dubai Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in co-operation with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.
