Al Tayer: Rawiyah Bus Depot Slated for Completion in June


Roads & Transport Authority – Mohammed Al Munji:

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced that construction work of Rawiyah Bus Depot Project is set to be completed next June as completion rate of the Project has now exceeded 75%. Al Tayer made this remark during an inspection tour of various components of Rawiyah Bus Depot, and expressed his delight with the progress rate in the Project which is undertaken by the RTA at a cost of 400 million dirham.

During the tour Al Tayer was briefed by Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossari, CEO of Public Transport Agency, and Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali, Director of Public Transport Projects Dep’t on the progress of the project which spans several phases. Phase I, which costs about 205 million dirham, covers construction of Bus Parking Yard capable of accommodating 295 buses (144 standard buses and 151 articulated buses), Electromechanical Workshop to house 20 buses at a time, Supply Line for 12 buses, and Washing & Cleaning Unit for 20 buses at a time. Phase II of the Project comprises construction of an administrative building for about 40 employees, and Drivers Quarters with a capacity to accommodate 444 drivers consisting of rooms, toilets, washing tubs, dining halls and recreational facilities. Phase II also includes construction of investment buildings spanning an area of 3005 square meters comprising restaurants, retail outlets in addition to a mosque to accommodate about 250 persons.

“These projects are part of an integrated plan to overhaul public buses network that aims to enable public transport users’ smooth mobility to any destination in Dubai” said Al Tayer. He added: “This covers procurement of new buses manufactured at world-class standards, construction of air-conditioned bus shelters for bus commuters throughout the emirate of Dubai; so far 770 shelters have been constructed and 440 of which have been operational, and construction of Bus Depots at Jebel Ali, Rawiyah, Khawaneej and Al Aweer. The plan also includes construction of Bus Passenger Stations at Al Qouz, Satwa, and Karama including full range of services to bus commuters such as parking lot, passenger pick-up and drop off areas, retail outlets, restaurants, and offices. Besides such projects, RTA plans envisage upgrading & introducing electronic systems & programs such as Journey Planner, Vehicle Automated Management System, Unified Card, Real Time Passenger Information System, Sharekni, and Awselni schemes.

“Work is up and running in the construction of Bus Depots at Khawaneej and Jebel Ali; where RTA has completed all works under Phase I of Jebel Ali Bus Depot Project including construction of the surrounding enclosure, local roads, bus stops, and public utility networks such as water, electricity, sewage and irrigation.

“The Station has a capacity to accommodate 300 buses (standard, articulated and double deckers), and has 24 bays to accommodate 36 buses at a time for washing, cleaning and refueling services. The Station also has offices for about 50 employees along with residential complexes for 1200 bus drivers posted at Public Transport Agency.

“RTA has recently started construction of Khawaneej Bus Depot, including design works and infrastructure such as road networks, parking, sewage, maintenance workshops and bus cleaning units. The Project also includes Bus Parking Yard capable of accommodating 295 buses (144 standard buses and 151 articulated buses), Electromechanical Workshop to house 20 buses at a time, Supply Line for 12 buses, and Washing & Cleaning Unit for 20 buses at a time.
